June, Maven and Callum headed straight to the Rattlesnake Juice Bar straight after school the next day. Callum told them as long as they left by 7pm, everything should be fine and so, they got off the school bus right by the bar.
June smiled at both of her brothers, as they walked into the bar. However, they were greeted by no one, it was empty apart from the odd one or two people plus the bartender. There was no one their age either, as only adults and the elderly sat in this bar, and talked about things that the three of them couldn’t understand.
“Oh.” Callum sighed as he searched for a teenager. June however, couldn’t stand to be in the bar any longer due to the dirt that was piling up thanks to the sand, and so she came up with a plan to still hang out together.
“I guess you’re right Junebug, let’s go.” Maven agreed as him and June left together with Callum trailing behind. They walked for about ten minutes before they arrived at the park but there was sight of children, teenagers and adults alike.
Callum had decided that he was going to talk to the boy who was all by himself. He put a bright smile on his face, and walked over to him.
“Mommy said not to talk to strangers.” The kid echoed the words that every single child is told and Callum laughed.
“I’m not going to do anything, so it’s fine! I’m Callum Devine, what’s your na–“ The boy’s mouth widened at the sound of Callum’s name.
“THE Callum Devine? Your pranks are legendary at my school!” The boy giggled as he felt that he had just met a major celebrity.
“Okay, since you’re Callum, I’ll give you a handy tip.” The little boy laughed as he pointed to the girl in the red studded jacket. “She’s single and your age!”
Callum followed the direction of the boy’s hand and looked over at the girl who was staring into the distance.
Callum ran past the kid and managed to chase down the girl who was slowly walking away, he tripped along the way but got up and continued his determined journey just to say hello.
“Hello! You there! Yes, the one in the red studded, sleeveless jacket!” Callum called out and the girl slowly turned around to face Callum and he was taken aback by her beauty.
“Hi?” The girl replied back, before Callum took a step closer to her.
“I’m Callum, and I don’t think we’ve met before. But, you go to my High School, right?” He asked her, and the girl nodded her head.
“Yeah, I do. I’m Veronica, and my last name is Whitaker so don’t forget that. Not that I’m easy to forget.” Veronica laughed to herself and Callum shrugged his shoulders and joined in on the laughter too.
“So, what brings you to the park?” Callum questioned because he saw no one around her.
“Oh! I came here to read. Since my home is always loud and busy, the park usually is a calming place for me to read with a little bit of noise. The Library is too quiet, you know?” Veronica smiled, and Callum agreed.
“Me? I love taking photographs and having parties and having friends and little things here and there.” Callum answered and Veronica seemed to think about what to reply before she actually did.
“I guess I’ll have to come to one of your parties then.” Veronica replied to Callum as he thought of what else to say to her. It was his first real encounter with a girl, and he wanted to keep the conversation going.
“What– Oh! Purple or is it blue? Probably whatever is between the two of them.” Callum laughed and Veronica couldn’t resist laughing too.
Meanwhile, Maven was having a delightful conversation with another girl who had arrived at the park. She had already introduced herself as Casandra Schaffer who had recently just moved into town and she was looking for someone to show her around.
“Really? That’s awesome!” Casandra replied and Maven smiled, this girl was sending him all of the good vibes. However, things took a turn for the worst. “You can be my first friend right? That’d be awesome!”
Maven disagreed, he thought it was one of the worst things in the world. He can’t be friendzoned! Casandra then raised her hand in the air, trying to get a high-five.
But after that, the conversation got boring and no one said a thing.
Around the same time, June was busy not being concerned with the likes of men and was just taking the time by herself to really contemplate things. She had been staring at the clouds for a while and was thinking about her existence. Why was she born? What is her purpose in life? What is she good at?
After every question she asked, she managed to answer it. She was born because she was meant to be born as the heir of her family’s legacy, her purpose in life is to live, prosper and lead the the family while giving birth to the next heir. She is good at making mods, and also calming herself down when she needs to.
Through this, June began to think about growing up and growing into a brand new person. She had never really thought about what would happen when she grows up, and couldn’t imagine giving birth to children, it honestly scared her. But, she knew that she couldn’t let her father down, and she couldn’t let his efforts go to waste.
Night drifted over the world as the skies turned dark. June rose up from the ground and looked around to find that her brothers had left her. It was no big deal, but she had never been out in the dark by herself before, so this was an entirely new experience.
However, a certain man walked up to June and eyed her up and down, before being interrupted by Eliza Pancakes.
“This is D-“ Eliza began.
“I AM Don Lothario, and I am the reigning number one bachelor of Oasis Springs. And who might you be, girl?” Don winked at June and she was a little disgusted at his attitude, but decided that she wanted to give him something to remember her by.
“Oh, I’m June. I’m sure you’ve heard of me? If not, then you really haven’t done well in scoping the area.” June laughed and Don joined in.
“O-of course!” Eliza shook her head at me which I laughed at a little, before turning my head back towards Don.
“Now, what do you want… Ron?” June couldn’t stop laughing inside of her head, and it was amazing to see Don’s reaction to June mistaking his name.
“It’s Don and I wanted to see if any babes were interested in some fun under the covers.” Don winked again and Eliza almost vomited. June was immediately taken aback and she laughed while trying to shake off the growing cringe.
“I guess I’m going to have to call the police. Flirting with a teenager isn’t okay! Tut. Tut. Tut.” June laughed as she took out her cellphone and before she could dial the numbers, Don waved goodbye to the two women.
“Thanks June.” Eliza smiled at June before she got going herself. June laughed as she saw Don walking away from her.
June needed to take out her mental stress from her encounter with Don on something, and she saw a chess table over in the park distance. So, June made her way over and sat down, where she was soon joined by a guy who she didn’t even know.
“Are you here to pick up a girl?” She asked with caution and he shook his head.
“No. I’m here to play a game!” The boy defended himself and the pair of them began to play and it certainly attracted the attention of a chess champion.
However, the game did end with June winning and the boy being left with a sore bruise of embarrassment. He managed to catch up with June after she left the chess table, and he even initiated a conversation with her.
“Wow. You played really, really well. I can’t believe you beat me!” The boy told June and she giggled.
“Well, I play a lot of chess at home so I tried to bring my moves to an actual game.” June replied and the boy nodded.
As June got to know the boy more, she began to like him more and more. He was a great guy, and everything was heading in a perfect direction. Until…
“So, this park was full of children earlier! It was so awesome, I even got to play a sea monster!” June giggled and the boy looked disgusted as he heard what June said.
“Children are so… immature and annoying! I hate them!” The boy replied and it felt like a huge stake at hit June. Although, she wasn’t going to give this memory up. He was the first teenage boy she’s talked to outside of school, and she should at least commemorate the memory.
After taking the picture, June immediately went home and hung it up on her wall. There was a lot June had to consider when finding the perfect man for her, yet she was prepared to do everything she could to find her man.
